Privacy and confidentiality

What you share stays private

Discretion is at the heart of everything we do. Here is how your information is protected, in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Australian Privacy Principles, the Health Records Act 2001 (Vic) and the PACFA Code of Ethics.

Technical protections

Secure by design

Encrypted online sessions

Online sessions and messages run on a healthcare-grade telehealth platform that encrypts data in transit and at rest, so sessions and chat cannot be intercepted.

Two-factor authentication

Multi-factor login is required on clinical records systems and professional email, so no one can get in with a password alone.

Vetted software providers

Every provider that handles your information, from scheduling to storage, is bound by written data-protection terms that meet Australian privacy standards.

Encrypted email and messaging

Standard email isn't secure, so any sensitive information is sent through an encrypted email or messaging service.

Physical and administrative protections

Protected at every step

Encrypted devices

Full-disk encryption on every laptop, tablet and phone used for work, protected by strong biometric or alphanumeric passwords.

Secure storage

Any paper records are kept in double-locked filing cabinets. Digital backups are automated and encrypted, never left on local hard drives.

Automatic logouts

Systems log out automatically after short periods of inactivity, so nothing is exposed if a device is left unattended.

The limits of confidentiality

Everything you share is confidential, with a small number of exceptions set by law and professional ethics: if there is a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, if a child is at risk, or if records are required by a court. Melissa will talk these through with you at your first consultation.
